Medical Meditation is a Research Proven Treatment Method

Date added: Thursday, February 4, 2010

Clinical hypnotists are presented with a wide variety of clients with a multitude of issues to impact. With so many variables to consider, including managed care outcome-based treatment constraints (for those who take insurance), it can be a challenge at times to know which method will be the best for each individual client.

One of the most effective and flexible approaches for assisting dozens of issues is Medical Meditation. Hundreds of clinical research studies prove that meditational practices can positively impact chronic pain patients; management of emotional states, including anger, anxiety and depression; personality disordered clients; cutters and self-mutilators; and eating disorder clients. Meditation not only reduces stress symptoms present at the time of practice, but also teaches stress management skills for future use, facilitating long-term results.

And not only is it effective, but like hypnosis it's also all natural, a key reason many clients seek out hypnosis as a treatment option in the first place. Medical meditation is a physical and mental process, not a pill – no chemicals required for results – and therefore, like hypnotherapy, it carries no potential for worrisome drug complications or side-effects.

Today's medical meditation draws upon the wisdom from thousands of years of ancient Eastern traditional practice methods. However, while many may actually experience an adjunct spiritual rejuvenation, no religion is required for participating; non-secular meditation is just as effective.

Success with meditation is simple: it's all about the open attitude, postures and exercises. Meditation and Hypnosis are not the same thing, but they can be used co-jointly to assist clients in making positive, healthy changes. A meditation can last 15 minutes or a full hour, depending on the needs, desires and skills of the client. Hypnotists integrating meditation into their practice may find that a brief meditation session either before or after the clinical hypnosis session may dramatically increase positive results.

Available Training Resources to Learn Medical Meditation Skills

Anyone can learn basic methods of meditation in just a few hours, and after a little practice can begin teaching these skills to clients in corporate wellness and health programs, medical clinics and hypnosis offices, private practices offering group and individual consulting and coaching services, and in public and private university settings.

When first starting out, there are books, videos and audio lessons available teaching the fundamentals of the meditative process. One of the best resources for beginners is “Medical Meditation: How to Reduce Pain, Decrease Complications, and Recover Faster from Surgery, Disease and Illness” by Richard Nongard. Richard is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist who has been teaching and using meditational practices with his clients for over 20 years. This short yet richly educational text is available both in paperback and e-book .pdf download formats.

The book is designed for patients to learn how to control their symptoms and heal the body, but also for hypnotists and other professionals to learn these skills so they can help their clients heal faster.

To supplement the text education, Richard has also created complete instructional audio meditation demonstration sessions in downloadable .mp3 format, which guide you step-by-step through the meditation exercises presented in the book. This allows you to both experience the meditative process for yourself and better understand how meditation is taught to clients.
